Nico Argentato – Local Coordinator, Spanish & English Teacher

As an Argentine citizen and Spanish resident, I’m a native Spanish speaker. However, I was educated over a fifteen year period in a bilingual Spanish-English environment in Buenos Aires and, as a result, acquired a proficient level of English at a very young age. This helped launch my professional career, gaining early experience as a Sales Co-ordinator, Relationship Manager and Financial Manager for Corporate Customers in Argentina. An interesting initial work experience that is now vital in my local coordinator role, responsible for the safety and well-being of the students, available at all times and always on call.

I discovered my passion for teaching languages while looking for another perspective on life. Trying to be pragmatic, I took advantage of the opportunity to teach in the U.K. and experience “for real” the culture and language about which I had learned so much during my education. I decided to work in a state boarding school in England as a Resident Tutor and played full part in the community teaching Spanish to GCSE and A Level students, coaching sports, taking on pastoral responsibilities within a boarding house and I also represented Stourbridge RFC at rugby.

After this experience, I knew I wanted to become a teacher. I pursued internationally recognised teaching qualifications and devoted my professional life to teaching both Spanish and English in Cadiz. I have worked in more than nine language schools on the Bay of Cadiz during the last nine years, mainly teaching Spanish and English. During the last three years I gained valuable first-hand experience in the field, teaching an average of thirty-one hours per week. This was really intense, but at the same time it proved to be a character-building experience. Through the rapport I have with students in class and the positive feedback I get from students after class, I gained the needed momentum to become both the local coordinator and teacher at MFL.

Cristina de la Calle – Spanish and French Teacher & Online Teacher

Born in Salamanca, Gaditana at heart and citizen of the world. I have been teaching Spanish as a foreign language for more than 18 years.

It all started in France, where I lived for 12 years; There I finished my studies in Hispanic Philology and I worked as a secondary school teacher. Upon returning to Spain, I joined the educational team of one of the best Spanish schools in Salamanca until I got the call from the South and moved to Cadiz. I also worked as a teacher in some schools in this city, but two years ago I decided to settle as freelance teacher to teach in the way that I’ve always wanted to teach while using my own material. At the same time, a year ago, I expanded my business to teaching Spanish online, an area which I consider to be expanding.

My goal is communication. We talk because we want to communicate and, for me, there is no better reward than listening to students say what they want to say when they want to say it.

I also like to be a student, which is why I speak 4 languages (Spanish, French, English and Portuguese), some of them I’m still improving, and I wouldn’t mind starting to learn another one. Knowledge of other languages is key to understand my students and provide accurate guidance throughout their learning process.

Ana Ollero – Spanish Teacher & DELE Examiner

My passion is teaching Spanish and the literature written in this language. I have been a teacher for 6 years and I can’t imagine a day without explaining some aspect of my language. I enjoy a lot when my students reach their goals, getting the desired grade at university, solving important doubts or deepening their knowledge of the language. Listening to students while they practice what they are learning is a source of motivation for me. Even though the right answer is not always important, it’s wonderful to see them in action and asses their progress.

I have been a DELE examiner for the A1-A2 and C1-C2 levels since 2014. I like this aspect of teaching Spanish because the exam preparation requires creativity to design different strategies for students to learn from errors that arise at their current level.
